1 Safety

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s number one concern is the safety of the traveling public. Highway fatalities account for roughly 93 percent of total U.S. transportation fatalities. U.S. DOT initiatives have helped to reduce highway fatalities by 28 percent between 1990 and 2011.
