Maritime Vessels Carry More Than Half of Growing U.S.–East Africa Trade

There were are combined $1.3 billion in U.S. exports in 2007 to five East African nations:

• Burundi
• Kenya
• Rwanda
• Tanzania
• Uganda

Modal breakdown of 2007 U.S.–East African trade:

• 57 percent by vessel
• 22 percent by air
• 21 percent by other modes–mostly U.S. shipments of aircraft to Kenya (the aircraft itself is the commodity being shipped)
