- The global freight transportation infrastructure handles large volumes of cargo. In 2008, more
than $16 trillion of exported freight was transported worldwide. Maritime vessels, airplanes,
trucks, and trains transported these goods from production centers to consumption markets.
- In 2008, the top three global merchandise exporters-China, Germany, and the United
States-accounted for 26 percent of the value of total worldwide freight exports.
