NOTES: Transit rail modes are measured in car-milesthe movement of 1 vehicle the distances of 1 mile. This differs from a train-milethe movement of a train, which can consist of multiple vehicles (cars), the distance of 1 mile. The Transit mode increased by 137 million car-miles from 2007 to 2008 and 100 million car-miles from 2008 to 2009. Rail train-miles decrease by 87 million from 2008 to 2009.
