Maritime Data Working Group

Background

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) sponsors the Maritime Data Working Group (Group). The members consist of the following Federal agencies:

• U.S. Department of Agriculture
• U.S. Department of Commerce
  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
• U.S. Department of Homeland Security

• U.S. Department of Transportation
  • Research and Innovative Technology Administration/Bureau of Transportation Statistics
  • Maritime Administration
  • Office of the Secretary of Transportation
  • Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation
• U.S. Environmental Protection Administration

Mission

The Group's efforts are in the following areas:

• Recognizing and reporting data gaps,
• Improving data accessibility and quality,
• Engaging in joint data collection and research efforts,
• Sharing the latest data and information, and
• Working on data comparability and standardization.

In addition, the Group produces the Maritime Trade and Transportation reports.

Publications

The Group has reviewed and provided input on the Maritime Trade and Transportation reports and the America's Container Ports reports. In addition, it has assisted with several Maritime Administration publications.
