About our plan

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) wants you to participate in the development of our FY2011-FY2016 Research, Development and Technology (RD&T) Strategic Plan.

The RD&T Strategic Plan takes a Department-wide, systems-level approach to advancing our multimodal transportation system, and is written to align with DOT's Strategic Plan. It sets forth strategies and processes to ensure that RD&T resources are invested wisely to achieve measurable improvements in our Nation's transport.

A copy of the draft RD&T Strategic Plan will be available soon on this page.

We want your feedback

As part of our efforts to become a more open, collaborative and transparent Department, we are seeking public feedback on the RD&T Strategic Plan. To submit your own comments, we hope you'll link to the IdeaScale online citizen engagement tool from this page.

To participate, you first will need to create an account with IdeaScale:

• go to the IdeaScale home page
• click the "Register" link at the top right-hand corner
• follow the instructions on the page

Make sure you are logged into IdeaScale every time you want to participate.

Tips for making your comments really count

We will read each and every comment that you make on our plan, but there are some steps you can take to make sure your feedback through IdeaScale is as clear as possible:

• Always be sure to identify the section(s) of the plan to which your comment(s) pertain
• Post separate comments for each section of the plan you want to comment on:
  • on the left side of the page, click on the relevant section
  • click on "Submit New Idea"
  • repeat this process for every comment you would like to make

Responding to Comments

Once logged in, you can also use the "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" buttons to express your opinion on the comments of others. If you have more to say, you can write a direct response by clicking on the "Add your comment" link below the original comment.
