Friday, April 16, 2010 - The Research and Innovative Technology Administration's (RITA) University Transportation Centers (UTC) Program is leading the development of a National Transportation Workforce Development Strategy to prepare for a well-trained, diverse, collaborative, multi-disciplinary and highly skilled workforce for the future. The UTC program is developing the strategy in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, Federal Railroad Administration, and Maritime Administration, as well as with the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) and other key stakeholders. Regional summits sponsored by various universities are convening stakeholders to review and discuss regional, state and local transportation workforce development needs, opportunities, and best practices. The conclusions and recommendations of these summits will become valuable input for a national transportation workforce development strategy that will focus on not only the workforce of today but encouraging the workforce of tomorrow. Upcoming summits are scheduled for April 21 - 22 at Pennsylvania State University, April 27 - 28 at Iowa State University, April 29 - 30 at the University of Denver, and May 11 at the University of Tennessee. Additional information about the summits can be found at http://cutc.tamu.edu/workforce.html.
