UTC Grant Application Numbers "Robust"

With the application process for the University Transportation Centers Program Competition now complete, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration announced that a total of 63 (sixty-three) University Transportation Centers applications were received for a share of the $77 million in grants. A total of 22 grants, each worth $3.5 million dollars, will be awarded following a review of applications. The applications received break down into the following categories:

• 46 applications competing for 10 Tier I UTC centers;
• 3 applications competing for two Transit-Focused Tier 1 UTC centers; and,
• 14 applications competing for 10 Regional UTC centers.

It is worth noting that a significant number of new applicants to the UTC Program submitted applications. The University Transportation Centers Program awards grants to universities across the United States to advance the state-of-the-art in transportation research and develop the next generation of transportation professionals.
