Survey Reveals Public Open to Ban on Hand-Held Cell Phone Use and Texting
A study performed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reveals that the public is open to a ban on hand-held cell phone use while driving. The study, based on data from 2009’s Omnibus Household Survey (OHS), showed that 96 percent of the respondents thought that text messaging using a cell phone, smart phone, or similar device should not be permitted while driving. Additionally, 80 percent thought that drivers should not be allowed to talk on a hand-held cell phone while driving.
